John Richard Brantley, 68, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Topeka, KS where he lived with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons. John was born in St. Joseph, Mo on August 20, 1946, to Arthur H. and Yvonne (Atterbury) Brantley.

He was preceded by his wife of 38 years Kristin Brantley and his daughter, Heida Benonysdottir in 2012. He is survived by his parents, Arthur (Maggie) Brantley; daughter, Julie (Nick) Winship; grandsons; Dustin, Stefan, and Blake; sisters, Deborah, Cindy and Candis.

John earned a retirement after 20 years in the US Navy as an Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Operator. He was awarded an Air Medal with one strike/flight award. He also received a Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

John will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father and grandfather, passionate musician, vintage car enthusiast, and proud patriot.

Mr. Brantley has been cremated and will be buried at sea. There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
