James Marion Sieliet, age 76, died December 14, 2016, at his home. He was the son of Harold Sieliet and Julia Puterbaugh, born on January 29, 1940, in Zanesville, Ohio. He joined the Marine Corp Reserves at age 17 and later transferred to the Navy for active duty. He retired from the Navy after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of Vietnam serving two tours as a corpsman. Part of his career included working at NASA with the first monkey sent into space (Baker). He was a member of the Perry American Legion, Ozawkie American Legion, and he was the last surviving member of the American war Dads. James lived in the Perry, Kansas area, for more than 20 years and had many friends. He helped many of his fellow veterans by assisting them in obtaining medical care and other benefits offered to them through the Veterans Administration.

James will be forever missed by his wife, Mary E. Sieliet, of the home; three sisters (Kay Frame, being his favorite); one brother in Zanesville, Ohio; sons, James Franklin Sieliet of Kingman, Arizona, Richard Thomas Sieliet, Sr. of Perry, Joseph William Curtis Sieliet, Sr. of Perry; daughter, Sabrina K. (Sieliet) Brooks; eight other children from previous marriages; 34 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He had numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives; as well as his beloved dog, Chicklet; and his bird, Baby B.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy Sieliet; one son, Gregory Allen Brown; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton, Kansas. There will be a procession beginning at 1:30 p.m. from the Community Building in Perry, Kansas, to the cemetery for those wanting to attend the service. A life celebration will follow at the Community Building in Perry. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in his name would be appreciated. Flowers may be sent to the Perry Community Building, 604 E. Front Street, Perry, Kansas 66073.
