John Phillip Kendall, 65, of Topeka, lost his battle with cancer on November 28, 2016. He was born November 26, 1951 at Iola, Kansas to Donald Hale and Alberta Nadine (Bunker) Kendall. He graduated from Topeka High School. He served in the National Guard and was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Topeka. He married Debra Curtis. They divorced.

John was a fantastic creative artist working with several different mediums. He loved camping and fishing and particularly loved the time spent with family at the cabin at Tuttle Creek. One of his favorite experiences was getting to fish in Alaska with his good friends Hawk and Trapper. He never met a stranger and was generous with his time and helping others. He was a talented cook and passed on his love of cooking to his children. John was very engaging and people everywhere enjoyed him.

John is survived by his children: Jordan Kendall (Amanda Ems) and Leslie Kendall; grandchildren: Luciana and Coren Hatton; his brother, Steven Kendall (Jan) and their children, Jeff and Kelly; his aunt, Barbara Jean Perry (Hershel); his ex-wife Debbie Howland (David); many cousins; and his dear friends “Hawk” Dan Burghart, “Trapper” Ron Davis and Joey Whitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt Letha Mae Percy and his cousin Tom Percy.

There will be no formal service following his cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
