Wayne Eugene Cox, Topeka, died October 21st 2016. Wayne was born December 10th 1928 in Topeka. He was the first of six children born to Francis Schiffelbein Cox and Ralph C Cox.

He graduated from Topeka High School where he was a multi-sport athlete. His favorite sport was football and he would later play college football at Washburn University, and earned his degree from Washburn.

Wayne was an expert in plumbing and heating and would later teach his trade to young people at Kaw Area Vocational Technical School. In retirement he loved woodworking and working in his garden as well as helping out his family, friends and neighbors with repairs.

He loved watching sports, especially Washburn, KU, KSU, the Chiefs and the Royals.

Wayne married Lois Gaines of Emporia. They had five children: Dennis Cox (Jean) of Stockton, Ks., Stephen Cox (Meredith), Gail Alderson (Alan), and Cheryln Glover all of Topeka, and Susan Schneider (Curt) Coffeyville, Ks. He had thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by Lois, his parents, a brother, four sisters, son Dennis, and grandson Matthew Glover.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 28th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. A memorial service will follow immediately thereafter at 11:00AM. Inurnment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 6th and Gage. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Washburn Alumni Association.
