He was born July 7, 1923, in Mound City, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Alta Burkhead. He was a graduate of Mound City High School and Washburn University and proudly served in the Marine Corps during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Burkhead; daughters, Patricia (Terry) Rabe and Nancy (Roger) Henderson; son, Brian (Judy) Burkhead; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment of the cremated remains will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, in Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to carrytheload.org or toysfortots.org.
