Don began his military career right after high school in the Merchant Marines, then was in the US Army from 1946-1948 and from 1950-1951 as a mechanic and cook. After his time in the armed services, Don worked in the greater Kansas City area for the Santa Fe Railway Company, Bendix Corporation, Hercules Inc., and General Motors.
Don enjoyed playing and coaching various sports throughout his life, specifically the year he coached a baseball team that included all three of his sons and many friends. Whenever possible he organized a yearly fishing trip to Canada with his sons and various friends. After retirement Don honed skills as an artisan, creating various types of hunting and decorative knives from wood and animal horns.
Don (widowed in 2015) cherished his family: Denise Muncy Salsbury (David) of Silver Lake, KS, Dirk Muncy (Debra) of Lawrence, KS, Dorin Muncy (Donna) of Lenexa, KS , Darth Muncy (Rhonda) of St. Joseph, MO, and Delaina Muncy Lenard (Lance) of Rossville, KS; Geri’s siblings: Gloria Harris Burns of Cupertino, CA and James Harris of Eudora, KS; Grandchildren: Dusty Muncy of Lawrence, KS, Tara Muncy Sawyer (Sam) of Perry, KS, Donald Salsbury (Jessie) of Gardner, KS, Darin Muncy (Amber) of Pace, FL, Drew Salsbury (Andrea) of Marion, KS, Tanisha Love of Overland Park, KS; Tashawn Newson of Lenexa, KS, Drake Muncy Pino (Amanda Scoggins) of Lawrence, KS, Keara Lenard of Rossville, KS, and Kade Lenard of Rossville, KS; Great-grandchildren: Jacob and Kyan Sawyer; Brooklyn, Declan, and Gavin Muncy; Joshua Salsbury; Jaxon, Ryker, Wyatt, and Basil Salsbury; Alexandria Stuart; and Lotyss Pino.
Memorial services will be held June 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation held for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place for Donald and Geraldene Muncy at Lone Jack Cemetery, Lone Jack, MO, following the memorial service. Condolences may be left at www.dovecremation.com
