Wayne L. Haywood, 76, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016, at McCrite Plaza. He was born November 12, 1939, in Allen, Kansas, the son of Orie and Goldie (Schaffer) Haywood. He was a 1957 graduate of Herington High School and served in the United States Army from 1961-1964.

On February 14, 1960, in White City, Kansas, he married Glenda Diane Venburg. She survives. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad, which later became the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 41 years. He was a member of the West Side Christian Church in Topeka end enjoyed playing golf, collecting sports cards and memorabilia.

Other survivors include, daughter, Carla (Tim) Rogers; son, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Haywood; sister, Janet (Bruce) Baldwin; grandchildren, Beth and Matt Baldwin, Natalie and Dennis Overman, and Robert Jarrett; and great-granddaughters, Olivia Overman and Nora Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life is planned in Topeka at a later date. Private inurnment will be in the Herington City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
