Shirley A. Mason, 83, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015. She was born September 15, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Ben Wilson and Kay Warner (Floyd). Shirley was raised in Topeka, attended Crane Junior High and graduated from Topeka High School in 1949.

Shirley was employed in many areas of civil service and community service. Her last job was as the Director of Papan’s Landing Senior Center in North Topeka.

Shirley was a member of the A.B.W.A. of Albuquerque from 1968-1970.

Shirley married Byrl Mason on March 26, 1977 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2014. Survivors include daughter, Pamela Birkinshaw; son, John Owens; daughter, Debra Christian; step-son, Dean Mason; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byrl; mother, Kay Warner and step-father, Floyd Warner; father, Ben Wilson and step-son, Danny Mason.

Shirley enjoyed going to the casino’s to play the slots, playing bingo with her friends, reading and watching K.U. Basketball.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2015 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 S.W. 6th Avenue, in Topeka. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, in Topeka. The family will receive friends from 10: 00 – 11:00 prior to the service.
