On December 23, 1967 she married Lyle Shockey at the Methodist church in Seneca. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before her death. To this union, two sons and a daughter were born. Sylvia enjoyed cooking for her family. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Sylvia enjoyed putting puzzles together and reading books with her granddaughter Isabella and playing games with her grandson Jeremy. They kept her spirits up. Her hobbies included collecting Jeff Gordon memorabilia, unicorns and owls. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family. She was a strong wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Lyle of the home, two sons, Clarence and Sam Shockey and her daughter Jennifer (Brad) Rohlmeier, all of Seneca; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Isabella Rohlmeier; four brothers, Clarence (Sandy) Tryon, Sr., Seneca, KS, Ted Tryon, Summerfield, KS, Bill McGehee, Beattie, KS and Fred (June) McGehee, Topeka, KS; three sisters, Deb (Jon) Germer, Ralston, NE, Shirley Christie, Seneca, and Peg (Brad) Miller, Beattie, KS; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She will be missed by so many individuals. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents.
Per Sylvia’s request, she was cremated and no funeral will be held. A celebration of her life will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Seneca Community Building, 1500 Community Drive, Seneca, Kansas. The service will start at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent in care of Jennifer Rohlmeier at P.O. Box 62, Seneca, KS. The contributions will be used to help pay for Sylvia's medical expenses.
