Gary was born to Willis and Martha (Wilson) Magathan on February 27, 1942 in Topeka, KS.
He attended Topeka Public Schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1961. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Washburn University. Gary retired from the State of Kansas, Department of Health and Environment as a Food and Drug Inspector in 2002.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Sanders, Gainesville, GA; two grandchildren, Morgan and Trey; his brother Philip Magathan (Janice), Overland Park, KS; and niece Lauren Kirkegaard (Kory), Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel on June 6, 2015 at 11:30 a.m.
