The family of Joe Martinez is sad to announce the passing of Joe, 83 on August 2, 2017. Joe has been welcomed into heaven after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on Jan. 27, 1934 in Crowley County, Colorado.

Joe met Elizabeth Joan King (DePew) and the two were married on Feb. 6, 1954. He joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. The marriage brought four children into the world, and the couple were later divorced.

He then married Pamela Sue Woods (Craig) on Jan. 6, 1984. The two opened Martinez Sales & Rentals shortly after. Joe put all he had into making sure the business stayed alive for over 20 years.

Joe has always been a part of the community, which he showed through his love of baseball, bowling and golf. He was also a member of The American Legion Post 45 and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe is survived by Sue Martinez, his children: J. Micheal Martinez (Siegrid Sloan), Deborah J. Glessner-Heggie (James), Jolita M. Tully (Kenton), and Stephen Martinez. Step-children include: Kay Sams (Russ) and Denise Miller (DeWayne). He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jasmine Glessner, Shane Glessner, Andrya Mertz, Leticia Martinez, and Kayla Tully; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

The family requests the presence of friends and those who wish to pay their respects at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 805 Caroline Ave, Junction City, Kansas on August 12, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or Junction City Friends of Animals.
