Charles (Charlie) Roger Weik, 66, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in his home on July 25, 2017, with his son and dogs by his side.
He was born on January 20, 1951, in Manhattan, KS, to Richard and Lillian Weik. Shortly after graduating from Manhattan High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While within the Naval ranks between July 1969 to January 1972, he deployed to the island of Guam as an Ordnance and Ammunition Technician in support of the ongoing war in Vietnam. Most of his years following military service and prior to retiring, were spent working as building maintenance. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
He was a man that made mistakes in his younger years, but learned from them and strived to make things right. Good or bad, you always knew where you stood with him. He was an unconventional man that lived fast for many years in an unconventional life. He was a trickster, a flirt, a prankster, and an ornery storyteller that enjoyed making people laugh, especially ladies and children. Prior to his health problems, he enjoyed volunteering alongside Grant Cushinberry and helping those that were less fortunate. He was a proud American that loved dogs, buffets, a good rum & coke, Hawaiian shirts, classic rock and sports. His favorite teams were the Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and the Green Bay Packers. He bonded with his son through collecting sports cards and that continues on with his grandson.
He is survived by his dad, Earnest Wilkins and spouse of Chapman, KS; brother Larry Wilkins and wife Cheryl of Gardner, KS; brother James Wilkins and wife Donna of Manhattan, KS; son Donovan Weik and grandson Easton of Wichita, KS; dogs: Tripod, Daisy, and Little Boy of Topeka, KS, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Richard and Lillian; brother Richard; sister Cheryl, and his dog Buddy.
It lieu of flowers, it is requested that you make a donation to your local animal shelter and/or Veterans organization and that you perform an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a stranger in his name.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August, 9, 2017, at Keats United Methodist Church, 3193 Keats Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66503. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery, 2000 Leavenworth Street, Manhattan, KS 66502.
