Evelyn Mae Monroe, 84, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Hillsdale House. Evelyn was born at her grandmother's home in rural Udall, Kansas on August 24, 1932. She was the second of three children born to Hazel (Cole) and Lee Robinson.
As a young girl, she loved going roller skating. She took great pride in her sewing skills, making everything from Barbie doll clothes to wedding gowns. Her working career was spent mostly as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell and also the state of Kansas. She married Don Monroe on May 17, 1982 at Grant, Oklahoma.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Tim) Woolbright; her son, Bill (Matie) Grubham; 6 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lee Jr. and Don Robinson; her husband, Don; 3 children: Barbara, Holly and Joe; and 3 grandchildren, Amber, Ryan and Sara.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the First Free Methodist Chruch, 3450 SE Indiana, Topeka, Kansas. Pastor Mark Waterhouse will officiate. The family will hold a private burial service at a later date.
