Rebecca A. Hermsen, 57, of Topeka, passed away July 14, 2017. She was born September 19, 1959, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Alvin B. and Betty L. "Lisa" (Hoagland) Hermsen.
Rebecca was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. She attended school in Windsor, Colorado, and Concordia, Missouri, before going to Washburn University in Topeka, where she received her bachelor's degree in sociology. She worked for the State of Kansas until retirement, and as a Bradley birth instructor.
She is survived by her mother; two daughters, Laura (Tim) Ostrowski of Topeka, and Karen Mize of Denver; grandchildren, Matthias, Blaise, Andrew, Eleanor, and John; sisters, Chae (Joe) Williams of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Vicki (Sonny) Smith of Ridgecrest, California, Jan Hermsen of Waldorf, Maryland, and Jo Thornton of Kamiah, Idaho; brother, Francis Gersic of Bokelia, Florida; former spouse, Dennis Mize of Topeka; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her former spouse, Daniel Davidson of Emporia.
Rebecca volunteered her time with many organizations, including: Catholic Charities, Girl Scouts, St. Francis Hospital, and Most Pure Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches in Topeka.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka on Thursday, July 20th at 12:00 P.M. with a luncheon to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or Helping Hands Humane Society.
