Walter L. North, Jr., 75, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017.
He was born June 19, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Walter North and Dorothy Hansroth.
Walter joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958, at the age of 17. After the military, he worked in a variety of shipping and receiving positions. He was most recently employed by the Planning Research Corp. for 27 years, retiring in 2002.
Walter had a love of drag racing and working on classic cars and trucks with his son. He loved coaching his daughter’s softball teams and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a member of Police Reserve Service from 1971-1974.
Walter married Karen A. North on January 8, 1972. She survives. Other survivors include children, Joseph (Jennifer) North and Michelle North; grandchildren, Brayden and Marilee Carper; sister, Dee Kirkpatrick; brother, Garland Markley; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, Kansas 66611. Interment of the cremated remains will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, Fallen Officer Fund, 320 S. Kansas, Suite 100, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
